You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.

You blind guides! You remove the smallest insect from your food. But you swallow a whole camel!

Blind guides! You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel!

The scribes and Pharisees were watching Him closely, to see if He would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against Him.But He knew their thoughts and told the man with the paralyzed hand,“ Get up and stand here.” So he got up and stood there.Then Jesus said to them,“ I ask you: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to destroy it?”After looking around at them all, He told him,“ Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was restored.

The chief priests took the silver and said,“ It’s not lawful to put it into the temple treasury, since it is blood money.”So they conferred together and bought the potter’s field with it as a burial place for foreigners.Therefore that field has been called“ Blood Field” to this day.

“ Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat!”He answered them,“ And why do you break God’s commandment because of your tradition?For God said: Honor your father and your mother; and, The one who speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.But you say,‘ Whoever tells his father or mother,“ Whatever benefit you might have received from me is a gift committed to the temple”—he does not have to honor his father.’ In this way, you have revoked God’s word because of your tradition.

Or how can you say to your brother,‘ Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a log in your eye?

They shouted back,“ Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a revolutionary.

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the sanctuary, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gold of the sanctuary is bound by his oath.’

Then they took Jesus from Caiaphas to the governor’s headquarters. It was early morning. They did not enter the headquarters themselves; otherwise they would be defiled and unable to eat the Passover.
