When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,“ Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”They replied,“ Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”“ But you,” he asked them,“ who do you say that I am?”Simon Peter answered,“ You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Jesus responded,“ Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven.

I will establish over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will shepherd them. He will tend them himself and will be their shepherd.I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David will be a prince among them. I, the LORD, have spoken.

An account of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.

Isaiah said,“ Listen, house of David! Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men? Will you also try the patience of my God?Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.

Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, he will not execute justice by what he hears with his ears,but he will judge the poor righteously and execute justice for the oppressed of the land. He will strike the land with a scepter from his mouth, and he will kill the wicked with a command from his lips.

“ Look, the days are coming”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land.In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. This is the name he will be called: The LORD Is Our Righteousness.

Simon Peter answered,“ Lord, to whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life.We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”

But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ.More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christand be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ— the righteousness from God based on faith.My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death,

Then the crowds who went ahead of him and those who followed shouted: Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!

They said with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing!I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them say, Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!The four living creatures said,“ Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

For this reason God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow— in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out,“ Have mercy on us, Son of David!”

He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David,just as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets in ancient times;

So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Messiah would be born.“ In Bethlehem of Judea,” they told him,“ because this is what was written by the prophet:And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah: Because out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.”

Thomas responded to him,“ My Lord and my God!”

“ Rabbi,” Nathanael replied,“ You are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel!”

As you come to him, a living stone— rejected by people but chosen and honored by God—you yourselves, as living stones, a spiritual house, are being built to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.For it stands in Scripture: See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and honored cornerstone, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.So honor will come to you who believe; but for the unbelieving, The stone that the builders rejected— this one has become the cornerstone,

Others said,“ This is the Messiah.” But some said,“ Surely the Messiah doesn’t come from Galilee, does he?Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Messiah comes from David’s offspring and from the town of Bethlehem, where David lived?”

Then those in the boat worshiped him and said,“ Truly you are the Son of God.”

After removing him, he raised up David as their king and testified about him,‘ I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my will.’“ From this man’s descendants, as he promised, God brought to Israel the Savior, Jesus.

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will accomplish this.
