For the commandments say,“ You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.” These— and other such commandments— are summed up in this one commandment:“ Love your neighbor as yourself.”

We love each other because he loved us first.If someone says,“ I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love their fellow believers.

For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.

The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.

Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures:“ Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago.
