He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.

Yahweh says,“ Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths,‘ Where is the good way?’ and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said,‘ We will not walk in it.’I set watchmen over you, saying,‘ Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said,‘ We will not listen!’

I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.But my people didn’t listen to my voice. Israel desired none of me.So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.

“ Hey! Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters! Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat! Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which doesn’t satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness.

My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly won’t exalt them.

Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.

But about Israel he says,“ All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”

Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.

But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused!

As soon as you have come into the city, you will immediately find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat; for the people will not eat until he comes, because he blesses the sacrifice. Afterwards those who are invited eat. Now therefore go up; for at this time you will find him.”

He called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.He commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse,but to wear sandals, and not put on two tunics.He said to them,“ Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.Whoever will not receive you nor hear you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them. Assuredly, I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”

“ Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”

But he was angry, and would not go in. Therefore his father came out, and begged him.

Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars.She has prepared her meat. She has mixed her wine. She has also set her table.She has sent out her maidens. She cries from the highest places of the city:

“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!

When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him,“ Blessed is he who will feast in God’s Kingdom!”But he said to him,“ A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited,‘ Come, for everything is ready now.’

Yahweh has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them( but you have not listened or inclined your ear to hear),

For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel,“ You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence.” You refused,

Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.As you go, preach, saying,‘ The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!’

The Lord announced the word. The ones who proclaim it are a great company.

See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven,
