I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!’But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me.I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them.

“ Hey, all who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come! Buy and eat! Come! Buy wine and milk without money and without cost!Why pay money for something that will not nourish you? Why spend your hard-earned money on something that will not satisfy? Listen carefully to me and eat what is nourishing! Enjoy fine food!

My people are obsessed with turning away from me; they call to Baal, but he will never exalt them!

but you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life.

But about Israel he says,“ All day long I held out my hands to this disobedient and stubborn people!”

However, because I called but you refused to listen, because I stretched out my hand but no one paid attention,because you neglected all my advice, and did not comply with my rebuke,so I myself will laugh when disaster strikes you, I will mock when what you dread comes,when what you dread comes like a whirlwind, and disaster strikes you like a devastating storm, when distressing trouble comes on you.Then they will call to me, but I will not answer; they will diligently seek me, but they will not find me.Because they hated moral knowledge, and did not choose to fear the LORD,they did not comply with my advice, they spurned all my rebuke.Therefore they will eat from the fruit of their way, and they will be stuffed full of their own counsel.For the waywardness of the simpletons will kill them, and the careless ease of fools will destroy them.

But the more I summoned them, the farther they departed from me. They sacrificed to the Baal idols and burned incense to images.

But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to be their king, bring them here and slaughter them in front of me!’”

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!

When you enter the town, you can find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. The people won’t eat until he arrives, for he must bless the sacrifice. Once that happens, those who have been invited will eat. Now go on up, for this is the time when you can find him!”

Jesus called the twelve and began to send them out two by two. He gave them authority over the unclean spirits.He instructed them to take nothing for the journey except a staff– no bread, no bag, no money in their belts–and to put on sandals but not to wear two tunics.He said to them,“ Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the area.If a place will not welcome you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

“ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

But the older son became angry and refused to go in. His father came out and appealed to him,

Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out its seven pillars.She has prepared her meat, she has mixed her wine; she also has arranged her table.She has sent out her female servants; she calls out on the highest places of the city.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!

When one of those at the meal with Jesus heard this, he said to him,“ Blessed is everyone who will feast in the kingdom of God!”But Jesus said to him,“ A man once gave a great banquet and invited many guests.At the time for the banquet he sent his slave to tell those who had been invited,‘ Come, because everything is now ready.’

Over and over again the LORD has sent his servants the prophets to you. But you have not listened or paid attention.

For this is what the master, the LORD, the Holy One of Israel says:“ If you repented and patiently waited for me, you would be delivered; if you calmly trusted in me you would find strength, but you are unwilling.

Go instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.As you go, preach this message:‘ The kingdom of heaven is near!’

The Lord speaks; many, many women spread the good news.

Take care not to refuse the one who is speaking! For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less shall we, if we reject the one who warns from heaven?
