And they asked him a question, saying,“ Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring.And the second took her, and died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise.And the seven left no offspring. Last of all the woman also died.In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.”Jesus said to them,“ Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God?For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying,‘ I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong.”

Now when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council,“ Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. It is with respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead that I am on trial.”And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

There came to him some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection,and they asked him a question, saying,“ Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.Now there were seven brothers. For the seven had her as wife.”And Jesus said to them,“ The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.”Then some of the scribes answered,“ Teacher, you have spoken well.”For they no longer dared to ask him any question.

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain.

who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some.

Jesus said to them,“ Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
