Whose image and inscription are on it?” They said,“ Caesar’s.”So he said to them,“ Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”Thus they were unable in the presence of the people to trap him with his own words. And stunned by his answer, they fell silent.

Then they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to trap him with his own words.When they came they said to him,“ Teacher, we know that you are truthful and do not court anyone’s favor, because you show no partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”But he saw through their hypocrisy and said to them,“ Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.”So they brought one, and he said to them,“ Whose image is this, and whose inscription?” They replied,“ Caesar’s.”Then Jesus said to them,“ Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were utterly amazed at him.

All day long they cause me trouble; they make a habit of plotting my demise.They stalk and lurk; they watch my every step, as they prepare to take my life.Because they are bent on violence, do not let them escape! In your anger bring down the nations, O God!

The kings of the earth form a united front; the rulers collaborate against the LORD and his anointed king.

For look, they wait to ambush me; powerful men stalk me, but not because I have rebelled or sinned, O LORD.

Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.

I hear many whispering words of intrigue against me. Those who would cause me terror are everywhere! They are saying,“ Come on, let’s publicly denounce him!” All my so-called friends are just watching for something that would lead to my downfall. They say,“ Perhaps he can be enticed into slipping up, so we can prevail over him and get our revenge on him.

When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly; he thinks of ways to defame me, and when he leaves he slanders me.

Then some people said,“ Come on! Let us consider how to deal with Jeremiah! There will still be priests to instruct us, wise men to give us advice, and prophets to declare God’s word. Come on! Let’s bring charges against him and get rid of him! Then we will not need to pay attention to anything he says.”

When he went out from there, the experts in the law and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to ask him hostile questions about many things,plotting against him, to catch him in something he might say.

They have prepared a net to trap me; I am discouraged. They have dug a pit for me. They will fall into it!( Selah)

those who bear false testimony against a person, who entrap the one who arbitrates at the city gate and deprive the innocent of justice by making false charges.
