“ Say to Daughter Zion,‘ See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

“ Tell the people of Zion,‘ Look, your king is coming to you, unassuming and seated on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is righteous and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.And I will eliminate the chariot from Ephraim And the horse from Jerusalem; And the bow of war will be eliminated. And He will speak peace to the nations; And His dominion will be from sea to sea, And from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion,“ Behold, your salvation is coming; Behold His reward is with Him, and His compensation before Him.”

The scepter will not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

Shout for joy, daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, Israel! Rejoice and triumph with all your heart, Daughter of Jerusalem!The Lord has taken away His judgments against you, He has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; You will no longer fear disaster.

“ And My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances, and keep My statutes and follow them.

And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever.Just as you saw that a stone was broken off from the mountain without hands, and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what will take place in the future; so the dream is certain and its interpretation is trustworthy.”

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves;do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of armies will accomplish this.

But I will take pity on the house of Judah and save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, sword, battle, horses, or horsemen.”

And I, the Lord, will be their God, and My servant David will be prince among them; I the Lord have spoken.

“ Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely And do justice and righteousness in the land.In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will live securely; And this is His name by which He will be called,‘ The Lord Our Righteousness.’

Rejoice and shout for joy, you inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

Go up on a high mountain, Zion, messenger of good news, Raise your voice forcefully, Jerusalem, messenger of good news; Raise it up, do not fear. Say to the cities of Judah,“ Here is your God!”

Give the king Your judgments, God, And Your righteousness to the king’s son.May he judge Your people with righteousness And Your afflicted with justice.May the mountains bring peace to the people, And the hills, in righteousness.May he vindicate the afflicted of the people, Save the children of the needy, And crush the oppressor.May they fear You while the sun shines, And as long as the moon shines, throughout all generations.May he come down like rain upon the mown grass, Like showers that water the earth.May the righteous flourish in his days, As well as an abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.May he also rule from sea to sea, And from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.May the nomads of the desert bow before him, And his enemies lick the dust.May the kings of Tarshish and of the islands bring gifts; May the kings of Sheba and Seba offer tributes.And may all kings bow down before him, All nations serve him.For he will save the needy when he cries for help, The afflicted also, and him who has no helper.He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And he will save the lives of the needy.He will rescue their life from oppression and violence, And their blood will be precious in his sight;So may he live, and may the gold of Sheba be given to him; And they are to pray for him continually; They are to bless him all day long.May there be abundance of grain on the earth on top of the mountains; Its fruit will wave like the cedars of Lebanon; And may those from the city flourish like the vegetation of the earth.May his name endure forever; May his name produce descendants as long as the sun shines; And may people wish blessings on themselves by him; May all nations call him blessed.Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders.And blessed be His glorious name forever; And may the whole earth be filled with His glory. But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will come forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His times of coming forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”

You who ride on white donkeys, You who sit on rich carpets, And you who travel on the road— shout in praise!

So that I may tell of all Your praises, That in the gates of the daughter of Zion I may rejoice in Your salvation.

Then say to him,‘ The Lord of armies says this:“ Behold, there is a Man whose name is Branch, for He will branch out from where He is; and He will build the temple of the Lord.Yes, it is He who will build the temple of the Lord, and He who will bear the majesty and sit and rule on His throne. So He will be a priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two offices.” ’

“ Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”

My heart is moved with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.You are the most handsome of the sons of mankind; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever.Strap Your sword on Your thigh, Mighty One, In Your splendor and majesty!And in Your majesty ride on victoriously, For the cause of truth, humility, and righteousness; Let Your right hand teach You awesome things.Your arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King’s enemies.Your throne, God, is forever and ever; The scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of justice.You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your companions.All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh, aloes, and cassia; From ivory palaces stringed instruments have made You joyful.Kings’ daughters are among Your noble women; At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.Listen, daughter, look and incline your ear: Forget your people and your father’s house;Then the King will crave your beauty. Because He is your Lord, bow down to Him.The daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; The wealthy among the people will seek your favor.The King’s daughter is all glorious within; Her clothing is interwoven with gold.She will be brought to the King in colorful garments; The virgins, her companions who follow her, Will be brought to You.They will be brought with joy and rejoicing; They will enter into the King’s palace.In place of your fathers will be your sons; You shall make them princes in all the earth.I will make Your name known among all generations; Therefore the peoples will praise You forever and ever.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

“ But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”“ I will announce the decree of the Lord: He said to Me,‘ You are My Son, Today I have fathered You.Ask it of Me, and I will certainly give the nations as Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth as Your possession.You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.’ ”Now then, you kings, use insight; Let yourselves be instructed, you judges of the earth.Serve the Lord with reverence And rejoice with trembling.Kiss the Son, that He not be angry and you perish on the way, For His wrath may be kindled quickly. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

“ And it will be on that day,” declares the Lord,“ That I will eliminate your horses from among you, And destroy your chariots.I will also eliminate the cities of your land, And tear down all your fortifications.

And the king said to Ziba,“ Why do you have these?” And Ziba said,“ The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat, and the wine, for whoever is weary in the wilderness to drink.”

‘ And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; For from you will come forth a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”

And the king said to them,“ Take with you the servants of your lord, and have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

One from Jacob shall rule, And will eliminate the survivors from the city.”

In any case, he is not to acquire many horses for himself, nor shall he make the people return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you,‘ You shall never again return that way.’

“ I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a son of man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him.And to Him was given dominion, Honor, and a kingdom, So that all the peoples, nations, and populations of all languages Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.

He will not quarrel, nor cry out; Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.A bent reed He will not break off, And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish, Until He leads justice to victory.

He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys; and he judged Israel for eight years.

The Lord says to my Lord:“ Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”The Lord will stretch out Your strong scepter from Zion, saying,“ Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”Your people will volunteer freely on the day of Your power; In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, Your youth are to You as the dew.The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind,“ You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”

They went away and found a colt tied at the door, outside in the street; and they* untied it.And some of the bystanders were saying to them,“ What are you doing, untying the colt?”And they told them just as Jesus had said, and they gave them permission.They* brought the colt to Jesus and* put their cloaks on it; and He sat on it.And many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields.And those who went in front and those who followed were shouting:“ Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David; Hosanna in the highest!”And Jesus entered Jerusalem and came into the temple area; and after looking around at everything, He left for Bethany with the twelve, since it was already late.

Now Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; and he had 1,400 chariots and twelve thousand horsemen, and he stationed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.

Nathanael answered Him,“ Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel!”

So they shouted,“ Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate* said to them,“ Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered,“ We have no king except Caesar.”So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified.They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, carrying His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which in Hebrew is called, Golgotha.There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.Now Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written:“ JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek.So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate,“ Do not write,‘ The King of the Jews’; rather, write that He said,‘ I am King of the Jews.’ ”Pilate answered,“ What I have written, I have written.”

Now I, Paul, myself urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ— I who am meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent!
