Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

“ Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.

Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent[ him] away empty.And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated[ him] shamefully, and sent[ him] away empty.And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast[ him] out.Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence[ him] when they see him.But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed[ him]. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard[ it], they said, God forbid.And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

And he began to speak unto them by parables. A[ certain] man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about[ it], and digged[ a place for] the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.And they caught[ him], and beat him, and sent[ him] away empty.And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded[ him] in the head, and sent[ him] away shamefully handled.And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.And they took him, and killed[ him], and cast[ him] out of the vineyard.What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand[ pieces] of silver.My vineyard, which[ is] mine,[ is] before me: thou, O Solomon,[ must have] a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

But what think ye? A[ certain] man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

And of Levi he said,[ Let] thy Thummim and thy Urim[ be] with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah,[ and with] whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.

Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

[ For the Son of man is] as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and enquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment:And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall shew thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee:According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall shew thee,[ to] the right hand, nor[ to] the left.And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.Thou preparedst[ room] before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof[ were like] the goodly cedars.She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.Why hast thou[ then] broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch[ that] thou madest strong for thyself.[ It is] burned with fire,[ it is] cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him[ for] the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he[ is] the messenger of the LORD of hosts.But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear[ the causes] between your brethren, and judge righteously between[ every] man and his brother, and the stranger[ that is] with him.Ye shall not respect persons in judgment;[ but] ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment[ is] God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring[ it] unto me, and I will hear it.

Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:

And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because[ there is] no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

For[ the kingdom of heaven is] as a man travelling into a far country,[ who] called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
