But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.He sent yet another servant, but they beat that one too, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.And he sent yet a third, but they wounded this one too and threw him out.“ Then the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What should I do? I will send my beloved son. Perhaps they will respect him.’“ But when the tenant farmers saw him, they discussed it among themselves and said,‘ This is the heir. Let’s kill him, so that the inheritance will be ours.’So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.“ What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?He will come and kill those farmers and give the vineyard to others.” But when they heard this they said,“ That must never happen!”But he looked at them and said,“ Then what is the meaning of this Scripture: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but on whomever it falls, it will shatter him.”Then the scribes and the chief priests looked for a way to get their hands on him that very hour, because they knew he had told this parable against them, but they feared the people.

He began to speak to them in parables:“ A man planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug out a pit for a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went away.At harvest time he sent a servant to the farmers to collect some of the fruit of the vineyard from them.But they took him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.Again he sent another servant to them, and they hit him on the head and treated him shamefully.Then he sent another, and they killed that one. He also sent many others; some they beat, and others they killed.He still had one to send, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those tenant farmers said to one another,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’So they seized him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill the farmers and give the vineyard to others.Haven’t you read this Scripture: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.This came about from the Lord and is wonderful in our eyes?”They were looking for a way to arrest him but feared the crowd because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. So they left him and went away.

“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.

I planted you, a choice vine from the very best seed. How then could you turn into a degenerate, foreign vine?

Solomon owned a vineyard in Baal-hamon. He leased the vineyard to tenants. Each was to bring for his fruit one thousand pieces of silver.I have my own vineyard. The one thousand are for you, Solomon, but two hundred for those who take care of its fruits.

Therefore he said,“ A nobleman traveled to a far country to receive for himself authority to be king and then to return.

“ Appoint judges and officials for your tribes in all your towns the LORD your God is giving you. They are to judge the people with righteous judgment.

“ It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his servants, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.

You are to go to the Levitical priests and to the judge who presides at that time. Ask, and they will give you a verdict in the case.You must abide by the verdict they give you at the place the LORD chooses. Be careful to do exactly as they instruct you.You must abide by the instruction they give you and the verdict they announce to you. Do not turn to the right or the left from the decision they declare to you.The person who acts arrogantly, refusing to listen either to the priest who stands there serving the LORD your God or to the judge, must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.

You dug up a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.You cleared a place for it; it took root and filled the land.The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches.It sent out sprouts toward the Sea and shoots toward the River.Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its fruit?Boars from the forest tear at it and creatures of the field feed on it.Return, God of Armies. Look down from heaven and see; take care of this vine,the root your right hand planted, the son that you made strong for yourself.It was cut down and burned; they perish at the rebuke of your countenance.

Then you will know that I sent you this decree, so that my covenant with Levi may continue,” says the LORD of Armies.“ My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave these to him; it called for reverence, and he revered me and stood in awe of my name.True instruction was in his mouth, and nothing wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and integrity and turned many from iniquity.For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should desire instruction from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the LORD of Armies.“ You, on the other hand, have turned from the way. You have caused many to stumble by your instruction. You have violated the covenant of Levi,” says the LORD of Armies.“ So I in turn have made you despised and humiliated before all the people because you are not keeping my ways but are showing partiality in your instruction.”

“ So I took the leaders of your tribes, wise and respected men, and set them over you as leaders: commanders for thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens, and officers for your tribes.I commanded your judges at that time: Hear the cases between your brothers, and judge rightly between a man and his brother or his resident alien.Do not show partiality when deciding a case; listen to small and great alike. Do not be intimidated by anyone, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too difficult for you, and I will hear it.

“ The scribes and the Pharisees are seated in the chair of Moses.

Then Micaiah said,“ Therefore, hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and the whole heavenly army was standing by him at his right hand and at his left hand.

Hear the word of the LORD, people of Israel, for the LORD has a case against the inhabitants of the land: There is no truth, no faithful love, and no knowledge of God in the land!

“ For it is just like a man about to go on a journey. He called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.To one he gave five talents, to another two talents, and to another one talent, depending on each one’s ability. Then he went on a journey. Immediately

Say,‘ Hear the word of the LORD, kings of Judah and residents of Jerusalem. This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such a disaster on this place that everyone who hears about it will shudder

Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah!
