又走上前去對老二也這樣說；他回答說，「我不願意」；後來後悔，去了。

父親前來對小兒子也說同樣的話。「小兒子回答說：『主啊，我去。』可是他沒有去。

謂其仲子亦如之、對曰、主諾、既而不往、

命其次子亦如之、對曰、主、諾、既而不果往、

又就次子、亦如此言、對曰、主、我往、而終不往、

諭次子亦往、次子曰：「大人、我往。」然竟未往也。

Then the man went to the other and said the same thing.‘ I will, sir,’ he answered, but he didn’t go.

And the man came to his second son and said the same thing; and he replied,‘ I will, sir’; and yet he did not go.

Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said,‘ I go, sir,’ but he did not go.

And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

Then the man went to the other and said the same thing.“‘ I will, sir,’ he answered. But he didn’t go.

The father went to the other son and said the same thing. This boy answered,‘ I will, sir,’ but did not go.

He came to the second, and said the same thing. He answered,‘ I’m going, sir,’ but he didn’t go.

他們聲稱認識神，卻在行為上否認他。他們是可憎的、悖逆的，在各樣的善事上，是毫無用處的。

他們成群來到你那裡，坐在你面前，像是我的子民一樣。其實他們聽了你的話，卻不去行；他們只是用口表示愛慕，他們的心卻是追隨不義之財。

所以凡他們吩咐你們的，你們都要遵行和謹守，但不可效法他們的行為，因為他們只會說而不去作。

你身為猶太人，倚靠律法，仗著神誇口，而且明白他的旨意，又從律法得了教導，能夠辨別甚麼是好的，自信是瞎子的嚮導，在黑暗中的人的光，愚昧人的導師，小孩子的教師，在律法上得了整套的知識和真理；你既然教導別人，難道不教導自己嗎？你傳講不可偷竊，自己卻偷竊嗎？你說不可姦淫，自己卻姦淫嗎？你憎惡偶像，自己卻劫掠廟宇嗎？你既然以律法誇口，自己卻因犯律法而羞辱神嗎？正如經上所說的：“神的名，因你們的緣故在列邦中被褻瀆。”你若遵行律法，割禮固然有益處；但你若是犯律法的，你的割禮就不是割禮了。
