那时，耶稣对众人说：“你们带着刀棒出来，把我当作强盗捉拿吗？我天天坐在殿里教导人，你们却没有逮捕我。

他天天在圣殿里教导人，祭司长、经学家和民间的首领，都想杀害他；但他们不知道要怎样下手，因为众人都围着他，听他的教训。有一天，耶稣在殿里教导人，宣讲福音，众祭司长、经学家和长老上前来，对他说：“告诉我们，你凭着什么权柄作这些事？给你这权柄的是谁？”他回答他们：“我也要问你们一句话，你们告诉我：约翰的洗礼是从天上来的，还是从人来的呢？”他们就彼此议论说：“如果我们说：‘是从天上来的’，他就会问：‘那你们为什么不相信他呢？’如果我们说：‘是从人来的’，众人都会用石头打我们，因为他们都认定约翰是先知。”于是他们回答耶稣：“我们不知道是从哪里来的。”耶稣说：“我也不告诉你们，我凭着什么权柄作这些事。”

亚伦子孙的班次如下：亚伦的儿子是拿答、亚比户、以利亚撒和以他玛。拿答和亚比户比他们的父亲早死，又没有儿子；所以以利亚撒和以他玛作了祭司。大卫和以利亚撒的子孙撒督，以及以他玛的子孙亚希米勒，把他们的亲族分开班次，按着他们的职责服事。后来发现以利亚撒的子孙中，比以他玛的子孙有更多作首领的，就把他们分开班次；以利亚撒子孙中作首领的，按着他们的家族有十六人；以他玛子孙中作首领的，按着他们的家族有八人。以抽签的方式平均地把他们分开，因为在以利亚撒的子孙中和以他玛的子孙中都有人在圣所作领袖，以及在神面前作领袖。作书记的利未人拿坦业的儿子示玛雅，在君王、领袖、撒督祭司、亚比亚他的儿子亚希米勒，以及众祭司家族和利未家族的首领面前，把他们的名字记录下来。在以利亚撒的子孙中，有一家族被选取了；在以他玛的子孙中，也有一家族被选取了。第一签抽出来的是耶何雅立，第二签是耶大雅，第三签是哈琳，第四签是梭琳，第五签是玛基雅，第六签是米雅民，第七签是哈歌斯，第八签是亚比雅，第九签是耶书亚，第十签是示迦尼，第十一签是以利亚实，第十二签是雅金，第十三签是胡巴，第十四签是耶是比押，第十五签是璧迦，第十六签是音麦，第十七签是希悉，第十八签是哈辟悉，第十九签是毗他希雅，第二十签是以西结，第二十一签是雅斤，第二十二签是迦末，第二十三签是第来雅，第二十四签是玛西亚。这就是他们的班次，是照着耶和华以色列的神藉着他们的祖宗亚伦所吩咐的条例，进入耶和华的殿，办理事务。

他们又来到耶路撒冷。耶稣在殿里行走的时候，祭司长、经学家和长老来到他跟前，问他：“你凭什么权柄作这些事？谁给你权柄作这些事？”耶稣对他们说：“我要问你们一句话，你们回答了我，我就告诉你们我凭什么权柄作这些事。约翰的洗礼是从天上来的，还是从人来的呢？你们回答我吧。”他们就彼此议论：“如果我们说‘是从天上来的’，他就会说‘那你们为什么不信他呢？’如果我们说‘是从人来的’……”他们害怕群众，因为众人都认为约翰的确是先知。于是他们回答耶稣：“我们不知道。”耶稣对他们说：“我也不告诉你们我凭什么权柄作这些事。”
