他們說是認識神，行事卻和他相背；本是可憎惡的，是悖逆的，在各樣善事上是可廢棄的。

耶穌就對樹說：「從今以後，永沒有人吃你的果子。」他的門徒也聽見了。

不義的，叫他仍舊不義；污穢的，叫他仍舊污穢；為義的，叫他仍舊為義；聖潔的，叫他仍舊聖潔。」

於是用比喻說：「一個人有一棵無花果樹栽在葡萄園裏。他來到樹前找果子，卻找不着。就對管園的說：『看哪，我這三年來到這無花果樹前找果子，竟找不着。把它砍了吧，何必白佔地土呢！』管園的說：『主啊，今年且留着，等我周圍掘開土，加上糞；以後若結果子便罷，不然再把它砍了。』」

現在斧子已經放在樹根上，凡不結好果子的樹就砍下來，丟在火裏。」

我為我葡萄園所做之外，還有甚麼可做的呢？我指望結好葡萄，怎麼倒結了野葡萄呢？現在我告訴你們，我要向我葡萄園怎樣行：我必撤去籬笆，使它被吞滅，拆毀牆垣，使它被踐踏。

這樣的人在你們的愛席上與你們同吃的時候，正是礁石。他們作牧人，只知餵養自己，無所懼怕；是沒有雨的雲彩，被風飄蕩；是秋天沒有果子的樹，死而又死，連根被拔出來；

就如一塊田地，吃過屢次下的雨水，生長菜蔬，合乎耕種的人用，就從神得福；若長荊棘和蒺藜，必被廢棄，近於咒詛，結局就是焚燒。

凡屬我不結果子的枝子，他就剪去；凡結果子的，他就修理乾淨，使枝子結果子更多。

倘若他們因認識主－救主耶穌基督，得以脫離世上的污穢，後來又在其中被纏住、制伏，他們末後的景況就比先前更不好了。他們曉得義路，竟背棄了傳給他們的聖命，倒不如不曉得為妙。俗語說得真不錯：狗所吐的，牠轉過來又吃；豬洗淨了又回到泥裏去滾；這話在他們身上正合式。

有敬虔的外貌，卻背了敬虔的實意；這等人你要躲開。

說：「巴不得你在這日子知道關係你平安的事；無奈這事現在是隱藏的，叫你的眼看不出來。因為日子將到，你的仇敵必築起土壘，周圍環繞你，四面困住你，並要掃滅你和你裏頭的兒女，連一塊石頭也不留在石頭上，因你不知道眷顧你的時候。」
