一個人如果不住在我裡面，就像枝條被丟在外面枯乾了，然後被收集扔進火裡焚燒。

他們聲稱認識神，卻在行為上否認他。他們是可憎惡的、悖逆的，在任何美善的工作上都經不起考驗。

於是他對那棵樹說：「永遠不再有任何人吃到你的果子了！」他的門徒都聽見了。

行不義的，讓他繼續行不義；骯髒的，讓他繼續骯髒；公義的，讓他繼續行公義；聖潔的，讓他繼續被分別為聖。」

於是耶穌講了這個比喻：「一個人有一棵無花果樹栽在自己的葡萄園裡。當他過來，在那樹上找果子時，卻找不到，就對園丁說：『你看，一連三年，我在這無花果樹上找果子，都找不到。把它砍了吧！何必讓它白占土地？』「但是園丁回答，對他說：『主人，今年再留著它吧。等我在它周圍挖掘，施些糞肥，或許它來年真會結出果子，否則，你就砍了它。』」

現在斧子已經放在樹根上，所有不結好果子的樹都要被砍下來，被丟進火裡。」

為了我的葡萄園，還有什麼該做的事我沒有做呢？我指望結出好葡萄，為什麼卻結出了野葡萄呢？現在我告訴你們，我要怎樣處理我的葡萄園：我必除掉它的籬笆，它就被吞盡；拆毀它的圍牆，它就被踐踏。

這些人在你們的愛筵中是汙點，與你們一起吃喝也無所懼怕；他們只牧養自己；他們是無水的雲，隨風飄蕩；是深秋不結果子的樹，死了又死，被連根拔起；

要知道，當一塊田地吸收了常常降在它上面的雨水，並且為種地的人長出有用菜蔬時，它就享受從神而來的祝福；但如果它長出荊棘和蒺藜，就沒有用處了，很快就要被詛咒，它的結局就是被焚燒。

所有屬於我而不結果子的枝條，他就除掉；而所有結果子的，他就修剪乾淨，好讓它結出更多的果子。

原來，他們如果藉著認識我們的主、救主耶穌基督而逃脫這世界的汙穢，卻又被這些汙穢糾纏、制伏了，那麼，他們最後的情況就比先前更壞了；因為認識了義的道路以後，背離那交託給他們的神聖誡命，對他們來說，倒不如不認識還好。在他們身上正應驗了這真實的俗語：「狗轉身回到自己所吐的東西；豬洗乾淨了又到汙泥中打滾。」

有敬神的外表，卻否定敬神的實質；這樣的人你要避開。

說：「巴不得你在這日子裡明白關乎你和平的事，但如今這事在你眼前被隱藏了。因為日子將臨到你，你的敵人要築起壁壘包圍你，四面困住你。而且，他們要將你和你裡面的兒女猛摔在地，不容你裡面有一塊石頭留在另一塊石頭上，因為你沒有認出神臨到你的時候。」
