“ The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.

And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.

When those hired at five o’clock were paid, each received a full day’s wage.

And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a shilling.

When those hired about five o’clock came, each received a full day’s pay.

For what does the Scripture say?“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”Now to the one who works, the wages are not credited as a favor, but as what is due.But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,just as David also speaks of the blessing of the person to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard.

And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he* said to them,‘ Why have you been standing here idle all day long?’They* said to him,‘ Because no one hired us.’ He* said to them,‘ You go into the vineyard too.’
