and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—

孰願為首、當為爾僕。

And anyone who wants to be first must be your slave.

and whoever would be first among you must be your slave,

Whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant,

For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.

They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them,“ What were you arguing about on the road?”But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said,“ Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law( though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law.To those not having the law I became like one not having the law( though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law.To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions.In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said:‘ It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Are they servants of Christ?( I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again.Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea,I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.

I do not think I am in the least inferior to those“ super- apostles.”

I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.

So I will very gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well. If I love you more, will you love me less?
