Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.

Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Then he called them.

And a leper approached, and bowed low before him, saying,“ Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him and said,“ Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”He said to them,“ What do you want me to do for you?”They said to him,“ Permit one of us to sit at your right hand and the other at your left in your glory.”But Jesus said to them,“ You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I experience?”They said to him,“ We are able.” Then Jesus said to them,“ You will drink the cup I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism I experience,but to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give. It is for those for whom it has been prepared.”Now when the other ten heard this, they became angry with James and John.Jesus called them and said to them,“ You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions use their authority over them.But it is not this way among you. Instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of all.For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

There were also women, watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.

Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying,“ Truly you are the Son of God.”

As they came into the house and saw the child with Mary his mother, they bowed down and worshiped him. They opened their treasure boxes and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

But she came and bowed down before him and said,“ Lord, help me!”

When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted.
