From that time Jesus began to point out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day.

Now the soldiers took Him away into the palace( that is, the Praetorium), and they* called together the whole Roman cohort.And they* dressed Him in purple, and after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on Him;and they began saluting Him:“ Hail, King of the Jews!”And they repeatedly beat His head with a reed and spit on Him, and kneeling, they bowed down before Him.And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple cloak off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they* led Him out to crucify Him.

For I handed down to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;

this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort to Him.And they stripped Him and put a red cloak on Him.And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying,“ Hail, King of the Jews!”And they spit on Him, and took the reed and beat Him on the head.And after they had mocked Him, they took the cloak off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.

Then they* brought Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter the Praetorium, so that they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.Therefore Pilate came out to them and* said,“ What accusation are you bringing against this Man?”They answered and said to him,“ If this Man were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.”So Pilate said to them,“ Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.” The Jews said to him,“ We are not permitted to put anyone to death.”This happened so that the word of Jesus which He said, indicating what kind of death He was going to die, would be fulfilled.Therefore Pilate entered the Praetorium again, and summoned Jesus and said to Him,“ You are the King of the Jews?”Jesus answered,“ Are you saying this on your own, or did others tell you about Me?”Pilate answered,“ I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me; what have You done?”Jesus answered,“ My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”Therefore Pilate said to Him,“ So You are a king?” Jesus answered,“ You say correctly that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this I have come into the world: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.”Pilate* said to Him,“ What is truth?” And after saying this, he came out again to the Jews and* said to them,“ I find no grounds at all for charges in His case.

And some began to spit on Him, and to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists and say to Him,“ Prophesy!” Then the officers took custody of Him and slapped Him in the face.

For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,

He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of great pain and familiar with sickness; And like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.

Those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, shaking their heads and saying,“ Ha! You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,save Yourself by coming down from the cross!”In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking Him among themselves and saying,“ He saved others; He cannot save Himself!

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you handed over and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,but put to death the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses.And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.

Early in the morning the chief priests with the elders, scribes, and the entire Council immediately held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led Him away, and turned Him over to Pilate.

for just as Jonah was in the stomach of the sea monster for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

And he came to us and took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said,“ This is what the Holy Spirit says:‘ In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and hand him over to the Gentiles.’ ”

Then the entire assembly of them set out and brought Him before Pilate.And they began to bring charges against Him, saying,“ We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”Now Pilate asked Him, saying,“ So You are the King of the Jews?” And He answered him and said,“ It is as you say.”But Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds,“ I find no grounds for charges in the case of this man.”But they kept on insisting, saying,“ He is stirring up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee, as far as this place!”

So Pilate then took Jesus and had Him flogged.And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and placed it on His head, and put a purple cloak on Him;and they repeatedly came up to Him and said,“ Hail, King of the Jews!” and slapped Him in the face again and again.And then Pilate came out again and* said to them,“ See, I am bringing Him out to you so that you will know that I find no grounds at all for charges in His case.”

Then they spit in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him,and said,“ Prophesy to us, You Christ; who is the one who hit You?”

And Herod, together with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, dressing Him in a brightly shining robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him.

Like godless jesters at a feast, They gnashed at me with their teeth.

All who see me deride me; They sneer, they shake their heads, saying,“ Turn him over to the Lord; let Him save him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”

and they bound Him and led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate the governor.Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,saying,“ I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said,“ What is that to us? You shall see to it yourself!”And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and left; and he went away and hanged himself.The chief priests took the pieces of silver and said,“ It is not lawful to put them in the temple treasury, since it is money paid for blood.”And they conferred together and with the money bought the Potter’s Field as a burial place for strangers.For this reason that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:“ And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the One whose price had been set by the sons of Israel;and they gave them for the Potter’s Field, just as the Lord directed me.”

Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.

and He said to them,“ So it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
