But when he learned that the new ruler of Judea was Herod’s son Archelaus, he was afraid to go there. Then, after being warned in a dream, he left for the region of Galilee.

But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee,

But then he heard that Archelaus was king of Judea. Archelaus was ruling in place of his father Herod. This made Joseph afraid to go there. Joseph had been warned in a dream. So he went back to the land of Galilee instead.

When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered,“ Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”“ Oh no, my lord!” Lot begged.“ You have been so gracious to me and saved my life, and you have shown such great kindness. But I cannot go to the mountains. Disaster would catch up to me there, and I would soon die.See, there is a small village nearby. Please let me go there instead; don’t you see how small it is? Then my life will be saved.”“ All right,” the angel said,“ I will grant your request. I will not destroy the little village.

“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress.He led them straight to safety, to a city where they could live.

As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream.“ Joseph, son of David,” the angel said,“ do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die.

When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod.After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.“ Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,” the angel said.“ Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.

“ But Lord,” exclaimed Ananias,“ I’ve heard many people talk about the terrible things this man has done to the believers in Jerusalem!And he is authorized by the leading priests to arrest everyone who calls upon your name.”

They replied,“ Are you from Galilee, too? Search the Scriptures and see for yourself— no prophet ever comes from Galilee!”[ The most ancient Greek manuscripts do not include John 7:53–8:11.]

The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

But Samuel asked,“ How can I do that? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”“ Take a heifer with you,” the Lord replied,“ and say that you have come to make a sacrifice to the Lord.

This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:“ I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.Oh, that you had listened to my commands! Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea.

When Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt.

Others said,“ He is the Messiah.” Still others said,“ But he can’t be! Will the Messiah come from Galilee?For the Scriptures clearly state that the Messiah will be born of the royal line of David, in Bethlehem, the village where King David was born.”
