It has taken away our children who play in the streets. It has taken away our young men who gather in the city squares.’

They traveled on from Bethel, and when Ephrath was still some distance away, Rachel went into labor– and her labor was hard.When her labor was at its hardest, the midwife said to her,“ Don’t be afraid, for you are having another son.”With her dying breath, she named him Ben-Oni. But his father called him Benjamin instead.So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath( that is, Bethlehem).Jacob set up a marker over her grave; it is the Marker of Rachel’s Grave to this day.

In fact, I hear a cry like that of a woman in labor, a cry of anguish like that of a woman giving birth to her first baby. It is the cry of Daughter Zion gasping for breath, reaching out for help, saying,“ I am done in! My life is ebbing away before these murderers!”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ You are making me childless! Joseph is gone. Simeon is gone. And now you want to take Benjamin! Everything is against me.”

Joseph has surely been torn to pieces!”Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourned for his son many days.All his sons and daughters stood by him to console him, but he refused to be consoled.“ No,” he said,“ I will go to the grave mourning my son.” So Joseph’s father wept for him.

Then I looked, and I heard an eagle flying directly overhead, proclaiming with a loud voice,“ Woe! Woe! Woe to those who live on the earth because of the remaining sounds of the trumpets of the three angels who are about to blow them!”

But man dies and is powerless; he expires– and where is he?
