他們從伯特利起程，離以法他還有一段路程的時候，拉結臨產了，而且是難產。在她難產的時候，接生婆對她說：「不要害怕，你這次又要有一個兒子了！」她的靈魂快要出竅，她快死的時候，給兒子起名為便俄尼，他父親卻稱他為便雅憫。拉結死了，埋葬在通往以法他的路上；以法他就是伯利恆。雅各在她的墳墓上立了一根柱子，這就是拉結的墓碑，直到今天。

他們的父親雅各對他們說：「你們使我喪失了兒子：約瑟不在了，西緬也不在了；你們又要把便雅憫帶走，這一切都是衝著我來的！」

回到他的兄弟們那裡，說：「那孩子不在了，而我該何去何從？」

雅各認出了那袍子，就說：「這是我兒子的袍子。惡獸把他吃掉了；約瑟一定被撕成碎片了！」雅各就撕裂自己的衣服，把麻布束在腰上，為他兒子悲慟了許多日子。他所有的兒女都起來安慰他，他卻不肯受安慰，說：「我一定會悲哀地下陰間，到我兒子那裡。」約瑟的父親就為約瑟哀哭。

我又觀看，就聽見一隻在空中飛翔的鷹大聲說：「有禍了！有禍了！住在地上的人有禍了！因為三位天使快要吹響其餘的號角。」
