不過這整個事的發生，是為要應驗主藉著先知所說的話：

這事以後，耶穌知道一切都已經完成了，為要應驗經上的話，就說：「我渴了。」

事實上，這些事發生，是為要應驗經上的話：「他的骨頭，一根也不被折斷。」

這樣，那藉著先知以賽亞所說的話就應驗了：「他親自代替了我們的軟弱，擔當了我們的疾病。」

這就應驗了藉著先知耶利米所說的話：

這件事發生，是為要應驗那藉著先知所說的話：

如果這樣，『事情必須如此發生』的經文怎麼應驗呢？」

不過這整個事的發生，是為要應驗先知書的那些經文。」這時候，所有的門徒都離開他，逃跑了。

希律死了以後，在埃及，忽然主的一位天使在約瑟夢中顯現，

並且告誡他們不要把他傳揚出去。這是為要應驗那藉著先知以賽亞所說的話：「看哪，我所揀選的僕人，我所愛的，心所喜悅的。我要把我的靈賜給他，他要向外邦人宣揚審判的事。

來到一個叫拿撒勒的鎮，住了下來。這是為要應驗那藉著先知們所說的話：「他將被稱為拿撒勒人。」

這是為要應驗那藉著先知以賽亞所說的話：「西布倫地、拿弗他利地，沿湖的路，約旦河的對岸，外邦人的加利利——

耶穌對他們說：「這就是我還與你們在一起的時候，對你們說過的話：摩西的律法、先知書和詩篇上所記的有關我的一切事，都必須應驗。」

「各位弟兄，那段經文是必須應驗的，就是聖靈藉著大衛的口所預言有關猶大的事。這猶大，領人抓了耶穌；

他們把耶穌釘上十字架以後，抽籤分了他的衣服，

大約在此時，希律王下手虐待教會中的一些人，用刀殺了約翰的哥哥雅各。他見這事使猶太人高興，就又去抓彼得；那時正是除酵節期間。希律抓了彼得，把他關進監獄，交給四班士兵看守，每班四個人，打算在逾越節以後把他提到民眾面前審判。

主的一位天使立刻擊打希律，因為他沒有把榮耀歸給神。他被蟲咬蝕，就斷了氣。於是神的話語不斷擴展，越發廣傳。
