耶穌從那裏起身，到了猶太的境界、約但河外；羣眾又聚集在他四圍；他照素常所行的又教訓他們。有人詰問他說：『人離棄妻子可以不可以？』意思是要試探他。他回答他們說：『摩西囑咐你們甚麼呢？』他們說：『摩西是准人寫離婚書去離婚的。』耶穌對他們說：『是為着你們的硬心摩西才寫了這條誡命給你們的。但從創造之初，「上帝造人是有男有女的」；「因此人才離開父親和母親，同他的妻子膠結。二人就成為一體」；這一來，他們就不再是兩個，而是一體了。所以上帝所配偶的，人不可分開。』在屋子裏，門徒又問他這事。耶穌對他們說：『凡離棄妻子，同另一個人結婚的，就是犯姦淫辜負了妻子；妻子若離棄丈夫，同另一個人結婚，也是犯姦淫。』

耶穌講完了這些話，就離開加利利，來到約但河外、猶太的境界。許多羣眾人跟着他；他就在那裏治好了他們。法利賽人上耶穌跟前來，試探他說：『人因了任何緣故離棄妻子，可以不可以？』耶穌回答說：『難道你們沒有誦讀過，創造主從起初造人，是有男有女的；又說：「為這緣故、人必離開父親和母親，同他的妻子膠結，兩個人就成為一體」麼？這一來，他們就不再是兩個，而是一體了。所以上帝所配偶的，人不可分開。』法利賽人就對耶穌說：『那麼摩西為甚麼囑咐人給離婚書便可以離婚呢？』耶穌對他們說：『是為着你們的硬心、摩西才准許離婚的；從起初卻不是這樣。我告訴你們，凡離棄妻子，同另外一個人結婚的，若不是為了淫亂的緣故，就是犯姦淫。』

耶穌講完了這些話，羣眾都因他的教訓而驚駭；
