設人有百羊而亡其一、爾意若何、豈不姑舍九十九羊於山、往覓其亡乎、若遇之、

人有百羊、而喪其一、爾意云何、不姑舍九十九羊於山、往求其喪者乎、

爾意如何、人有百羊、迷失其一、豈不姑舍九十九羊於山、而往求其迷失者乎、或作豈不姑舍九十九羊而往於山求其迷失者乎

爾等於意云何、人有百羊而亡其一、有不暫留其九十九於山、而追尋其所失者乎：

“ What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?

“ What man among you, who has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open field and go after the lost one until he finds it?When he has found it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders,and coming home, he calls his friends and neighbors together, saying to them,‘ Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who don’t need repentance.

As a shepherd looks for his sheep on the day he is among his scattered flock, so I will look for my flock. I will rescue them from all the places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and total darkness.

They will no longer be prey for the nations, and the wild creatures of the earth will not consume them. They will live securely, and no one will frighten them.

My flock went astray on all the mountains and every high hill. My flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and there was no one searching or seeking for them.

My people were lost sheep; their shepherds led them astray, guiding them the wrong way in the mountains. They wandered from mountain to hill; they forgot their resting place.

I will seek the lost, bring back the strays, bandage the injured, and strengthen the weak, but I will destroy the fat and the strong. I will shepherd them with justice.

“ What do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said,‘ My son, go work in the vineyard today.’

“ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.The hired hand, since he is not the shepherd and doesn’t own the sheep, leaves them and runs away when he sees a wolf coming. The wolf then snatches and scatters them.This happens because he is a hired hand and doesn’t care about the sheep.“ I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me,just as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep.But I have other sheep that are not from this sheep pen; I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. Then there will be one flock, one shepherd.This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life so that I may take it up again.No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own. I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.”Again the Jews were divided because of these words.Many of them were saying,“ He has a demon and he’s crazy. Why do you listen to him?”Others were saying,“ These aren’t the words of someone who is demon-possessed. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

He replied to them,“ Who among you, if he had a sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, wouldn’t take hold of it and lift it out?

For you were like sheep going astray, but you have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the LORD has punished him for the iniquity of us all.

I am speaking as to sensible people. Judge for yourselves what I am saying.

I wander like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commands.
