Luke 9:46-48
Now an argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their hearts, took a child and had him stand by His side,and He said to them,“ Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great.”

Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus with her sons, bowing down and making a request of Him.And He said to her,“ What do you desire?” She* said to Him,“ Say that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine shall sit, one at Your right, and one at Your left.”But Jesus replied,“ You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They* said to Him,“ We are able.”He* said to them,“ My cup you shall drink; but to sit at My right and at My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”And after hearing this, the other ten disciples became indignant with the two brothers.But Jesus called them to Himself and said,“ You know that the rulers of the Gentiles domineer over them, and those in high position exercise authority over them.It is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant,and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your slave;just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them:“ What were you discussing on the way?”But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.And sitting down, He called the twelve and* said to them,“ If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”And He took a child and placed him among them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,“ Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”

Luke 22:24-27
And a dispute also developed among them as to which one of them was regarded as being the greatest.And He said to them,“ The kings of the Gentiles domineer over them; and those who have authority over them are called‘ Benefactors.’But it is not this way for you; rather, the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.

Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”They said to Him,“ We are able.” And Jesus said to them,“ The cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized.But to sit on My right or on My left is not Mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”Hearing this, the other ten began to feel indignant with James and John.Calling them to Himself, Jesus* said to them,“ You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles domineer over them; and their people in high position exercise authority over them.But it is not this way among you; rather, whoever wants to become prominent among you shall be your servant;and whoever wants to be first among you shall be slave of all.For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
