下山的時候，耶穌囑咐他們說：「人子還沒有從死人中復活，你們不要把所看到的告訴人。」門徒將這話存記在心，彼此議論「從死人中復活」是甚麼意思。他們就問耶穌：「文士為甚麼說以利亞必須先來？」耶穌說：「以利亞的確先來復興萬事。經上不是指着人子說，他要受許多的苦和被人輕慢嗎？我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，他們任意待他，正如經上指着他說的。」

耶穌切切吩咐他們，命令他們不可把這事告訴任何人；又說：「人子必須受許多的苦，被長老、祭司長和文士棄絕，並且被殺，第三天復活。」

可是我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人不認識他，反倒任意待他。人子也將這樣受他們的苦。」

她的父母非常驚奇；耶穌吩咐他們不要把所發生的事告訴任何人。

耶穌說：「狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有枕頭的地方。」

又對他們說：「照經上所寫的，基督必受害，第三天從死人中復活，並且人們要奉他的名傳悔改、使罪得赦的道，從耶路撒冷起直傳到萬邦。

耶穌對他說：「你要注意，不可告訴任何人，只要去，讓祭司為你檢查，並獻上摩西所吩咐的祭物，作為證據給眾人看。」

當時，耶穌囑咐門徒不可對任何人說他是基督。從那時起，耶穌才向門徒明說，他必須上耶路撒冷去，受長老、祭司長和文士許多的苦，並且被殺，第三天復活。

並要鞭打他，殺害他；第三天他要復活。」這些事門徒一點也不明白，這話的意思對他們是隱藏的；他們不知道所說的是甚麼。
