耶穌告誡他們，吩咐他們不要把這事告訴任何人。又說：「人子必須受很多苦害，被長老們、祭司長們和經文士們棄絕，並且被殺，然後在第三天復活。」

但是我告訴你們：以利亞已經來了，人們卻不認他，反而任意對待他；照樣，人子也將受到他們的苦害。」

她的父母十分驚訝，耶穌吩咐他們不要把所發生的事告訴任何人。

耶穌對他說：「狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有枕頭的地方。」

又對他們說：「經上這樣記著：基督必須受難，然後在第三天從死人中復活，並且人要奉他的名宣講為罪得赦免的悔改，從耶路撒冷開始，直到萬國。

耶穌對他說：「你要注意，不可告訴任何人，只要去把自己給祭司看，並且獻上摩西所吩咐的祭物，好對他們做見證。」

接著耶穌吩咐門徒們，不要對任何人說他就是基督。從那時候起，耶穌開始向他的門徒們指示他必須到耶路撒冷去，經受長老們、祭司長們和經文士們的很多苦害，並且被殺，然後在第三天要復活。

他們要鞭打他，並殺害他；然後在第三天，他要復活。」但門徒們一點也不領悟這些話。這話對他們是隱藏的，他們不知道他在說什麼。
