耶稣郑重地吩咐他们不许泄露祂的身份，又说：“人子必须受许多苦，被长老、祭司长和律法教师弃绝，杀害，但必在第三天复活。”

但我告诉你们，以利亚已经来了，人们却不认识他，甚至还任意对待他。人子同样也会在他们手下受苦。”

她的父母非常惊讶，耶稣却嘱咐他们不要把这事传开。

耶稣说：“狐狸有洞，飞鸟有窝，人子却没有安枕之处。”

又对他们说：“圣经上说，基督必受害，然后在第三天从死里复活，人们要奉祂的名传扬悔改、赦罪的福音，从耶路撒冷一直传遍万国。

耶稣对他说：“不要把这事告诉别人，要去让祭司察看你的身体，并且照摩西的规定献祭，向众人证明你已经洁净了。”

当下，耶稣叮嘱门徒不可告诉别人祂就是基督。从此以后，耶稣开始清楚地指示门徒，祂必须去耶路撒冷，受长老、祭司长和律法教师许多的迫害，并且被处死，但第三天必从死里复活。
