Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.And Elisha saw it, and he cried out,“ My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus,“ Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— not knowing what he said.

And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said,“ Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said,“ The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!”And Elijah said to them,“ Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let one of them escape!” So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the Brook Kishon and executed them there.

And His disciples asked Him, saying,“ Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”Jesus answered and said to them,“ Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away,how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels.For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab,“ As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”

And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord.And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day.

I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.

“ The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it.

He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah,‘ to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you— Moses, in whom you trust.For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward,but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.
