“ Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.

And as they were walking along and talking, behold, a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and they separated the two of them. Then Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven.And Elisha was watching it and he was crying out,“ My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” And he did not see Elijah again. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.He also took up the coat of Elijah that had fallen from him, and he went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.Then he took the coat of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters, and said,“ Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha crossed over.

Now He said to them,“ These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things that are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

And as these two men were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus,“ Master, it is good that we are here; and let’s make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— not realizing what he was saying.

Then at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet approached and said,“ Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.Answer me, Lord, answer me, so that this people may know that You, Lord, are God, and that You have turned their heart back.”Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood, and the stones and the dust; and it licked up the water that was in the trench.When all the people saw this, they fell on their faces; and they said,“ The Lord, He is God; the Lord, He is God!”Then Elijah said to them,“ Seize the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape.” So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slaughtered them there.

And His disciples asked Him,“ Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”And He answered and said,“ Elijah is coming and will restore all things;but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.

For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah,who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure, which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

But if the ministry of death, engraved in letters on stones, came with glory so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was,how will the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory?For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness excel in glory.For indeed what had glory in this case has no glory, because of the glory that surpasses it.For if that which fades away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.

Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab,“ As the Lord, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall certainly be neither dew nor rain during these years, except by my word.”

Then beginning with Moses and with all the Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.

So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, in accordance with the word of the Lord.And He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth peor; but no one knows his burial place to this day.

I will raise up for them a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them everything that I command him.

“ The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John came; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

And it is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers back to their children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have put your hope.For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession: Jesus;He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later;but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house— whose house we are, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the boast of our hope.

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.
