But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”

第予語爾、依理藹實已蒞臨、而人莫之識、且任意處之。人子之將罹橫逆、亦復如是。』

But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.And they made His grave with the wicked— But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.

But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

Now King Herod heard of Him, for His name had become well known. And he said,“ John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”Others said,“ It is Elijah.” And others said,“ It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets.”But when Herod heard, he said,“ This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!”For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her.Because John had said to Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not;for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl,“ Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”He also swore to her,“ Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”So she went out and said to her mother,“ What shall I ask?” And she said,“ The head of John the Baptist!”Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying,“ I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her.Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison,brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.

after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.And as John was finishing his course, he said,‘ Who do you think I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.’“ Men and brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to you the word of this salvation has been sent.For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they did not know Him, nor even the voices of the Prophets which are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled them in condemning Him.And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put to death.

And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one,saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”Then He said to them all,“ If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said,“ By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”But Jesus answered and said to them,“ I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things:The baptism of John— where was it from? From heaven or from men?” And they reasoned among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say to us,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’

There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish— the very works that I do— bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.

But Herod the tetrarch, being rebuked by him concerning Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,also added this, above all, that he shut John up in prison.

And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples

He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.

The baptism of John— was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me.”And they reasoned among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Why then did you not believe him?’But if we say,‘ From men’”— they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed.

For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.

Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,

For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.Because John had said to him,“ It is not lawful for you to have her.”And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.But when Herod’s birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask.So she, having been prompted by her mother, said,“ Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter.”And the king was sorry; nevertheless, because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he commanded it to be given to her.So he sent and had John beheaded in prison.

For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say,‘ He has a demon.’

Then He answered and told them,“ Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.”

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.For this is he of whom it is written:‘ Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’“ Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
