but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

第予語爾、依理藹實已蒞臨、而人莫之識、且任意處之。人子之將罹橫逆、亦復如是。』

But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

“ But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”

He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of great pain and familiar with sickness; And like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself bore, And our pains that He carried; Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted, Struck down by God, and humiliated.But He was pierced for our offenses, He was crushed for our wrongdoings; The punishment for our well being was laid upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed.All of us, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the wrongdoing of us all To fall on Him.He was oppressed and afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off from the land of the living For the wrongdoing of my people, to whom the blow was due?And His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.But the Lord desired To crush Him, causing Him grief; If He renders Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, For He will bear their wrongdoings.Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the plunder with the strong, Because He poured out His life unto death, And was counted with wrongdoers; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the wrongdoers.

From that time Jesus began to point out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day.

let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead— by this name this man stands here before you in good health.

But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,but put to death the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses.

And King Herod heard about it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying,“ John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”But others were saying,“ He is Elijah.” And others were saying,“ He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”But when Herod heard about it, he kept saying,“ John, whom I beheaded, has risen!”For Herod himself had sent men and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her.For John had been saying to Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”And Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death, and could not do so;for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he had been protecting him. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed; and yet he used to enjoy listening to him.An opportune day came when Herod, on his birthday, held a banquet for his nobles and military commanders, and the leading people of Galilee;and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl,“ Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”And he swore to her,“ Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom.”And she went out and said to her mother,“ What shall I ask for?” And she said,“ The head of John the Baptist.”Immediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying,“ I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”And although the king was very sorry, because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he was unwilling to refuse her.Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head. And he went and beheaded him in the prison,and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.

after John had proclaimed, before His coming, a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.And while John was completing his course, he kept saying,‘ What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, one is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’“ Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.For those who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, recognizing neither Him nor the declarations of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him.And though they found no grounds for putting Him to death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.

But He warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone,saying,“ The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”And He was saying to them all,“ If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, this is the one who will save it.For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but loses or forfeits himself?

When He entered the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, and said,“ By what authority are You doing these things, and who gave You this authority?”But Jesus responded and said to them,“ I will also ask you one question, which, if you tell Me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things.The baptism of John was from what source: from heaven or from men?” And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say to us,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’

There is another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.You have sent messengers to John, and he has testified to the truth.But the testimony I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.He was the lamp that was burning and shining, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.But the testimony I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish— the very works that I do— testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me.

But when Herod the tetrarch was reprimanded by him regarding Herodias, his brother’s wife, and regarding all the evil things which Herod had done,Herod also added this to them all: he locked John up in prison.

Now while in prison, John heard about the works of Christ, and he sent word by his disciples,

He came to His own, and His own people did not accept Him.

Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? Answer Me.”And they began considering the implications among themselves, saying,“ If we say,‘ From heaven,’ He will say,‘ Then why did you not believe him?’But should we say,‘ From men’?”— they were afraid of the people, for they all considered John to have been a real prophet.

For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; and you, seeing this, did not even have second thoughts afterward so as to believe him.

this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.

Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They killed those who had previously announced the coming of the Righteous One, and you have now become betrayers and murderers of Him;

For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.For John had been saying to him,“ It is not lawful for you to have her.”Although Herod wanted to put him to death, he feared the crowd, because they regarded John as a prophet.But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod,so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.And after being prompted by her mother, she* said,“ Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.”And although he was grieved, the king commanded it to be given because of his oaths and his dinner guests.He sent word and had John beheaded in the prison.

For John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say,‘ He has a demon!’

And He said to them,“ Elijah does come first and he restores all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wanted, just as it is written of him.”

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet.This is the one about whom it is written:‘ Behold, I am sending My messenger ahead of You, Who will prepare Your way before You.’Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has been treated violently, and violent men take it by force.For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.The one who has ears to hear, let him hear.
