but I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them.

但我告爾、以利亞已至、奈人未之識、且任意待之、人子亦將如是受其害、

第予語爾、依理藹實已蒞臨、而人莫之識、且任意處之。人子之將罹橫逆、亦復如是。』

But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”

But I tell you, Elijah has already come. People didn’t recognize him. They have done to him everything they wanted to do. In the same way, they are going to make the Son of Man suffer.”

He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

From that time began Jesus to show unto his disciples, that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.

be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.

But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you,and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

And king Herod heard thereof; for his name had become known: and he said, John the Baptizer is risen from the dead, and therefore do these powers work in him.But others said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is a prophet, even as one of the prophets.But Herod, when he heard thereof, said, John, whom I beheaded, he is risen.For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her.For John said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.And Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him; and she could not;for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed; and he heard him gladly.And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, and the high captains, and the chief men of Galilee;and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and them that sat at meat with him; and the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptizer.And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou forthwith give me on a platter the head of John the Baptist.And the king was exceeding sorry; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat, he would not reject her.And straightway the king sent forth a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring his head: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel gave it to her mother.

when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth.For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.And though they found no cause of death in him, yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.

But he charged them, and commanded them to tell this to no man;saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose or forfeit his own self?

And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?

It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved.He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.But the witness which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his disciples

He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me.And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?But should we say, From men— they feared the people: for all verily held John to be a prophet.

For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:

Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers;

For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she should ask.And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.And the king was grieved; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat with him, he commanded it to be given;and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

For John the Baptist is come eating no bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a demon.

And he said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought?But I say unto you, that Elijah is come, and they have also done unto him whatsoever they would, even as it is written of him.

But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force.For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come.He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
