The disciples asked him,“ Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”

Then his disciples asked him,“ Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?”

And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.

And they asked him, saying,“ Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”

Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said,“ This Man is calling for Elijah!”Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink.The rest said,“ Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.”

And they asked him,“ What then? Are you Elijah?” He said,“ I am not.”“ Are you the Prophet?” And he answered,“ No.”

And they asked Him, saying,“ Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.Then Peter answered and said to Jesus,“ Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
