“ We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.“ Bring them here to me,” he said.And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

“ Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”Jesus said,“ Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down( about five thousand men were there).Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples,“ Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.”So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

He replied,“ You give them something to eat.” They answered,“ We have only five loaves of bread and two fish— unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.”( About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples,“ Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”The disciples did so, and everyone sat down.Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people.They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

He said to them,“ How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

“ Are you still so dull?” Jesus asked them.“ Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?

“ How many loaves do you have?” he asked.“ Go and see.” When they found out, they said,“ Five— and two fish.”Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.They all ate and were satisfied,and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish.The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.

“ Are you so dull?” he asked.“ Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them?

Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.
