乃諭諸徒曰：『人欲從予、必須克己、負其十字架、而追隨予後。

于是耶稣对门徒说：“若有人要跟从我，就当舍己，背起他的十字架来跟从我。

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

不負其十字架、而追踵於我者、非吾徒也。

凡不負其十字架、以從予者、亦不得為吾徒。

基督在肉體上既備受苦難、則爾等亦應毅然抱此宏願。蓋肉體受苦、則與罪絕緣、不復徇人欲、惟循天主聖意、以度餘生。

耶穌顧而悅之。又謂之曰：『爾尚缺一端、宜罄售爾之所有、施諸貧人、積寶于天、來從我遊。』

耶穌諭眾曰：『人欲從予、務宜克己、日負其十字架、而隨予後。蓋欲自保其生者、反將失之、惟為予之故、而舍其生者、克保其生。人即富有天下、而喪亡其真我、亦有何益？蓋凡以予及吾道為恥者、則人子憑己威光、且憑聖父聖天神之威光、赫然臨格時、亦必以其人為恥也。予實語爾、現立於斯者、必有未嘗死味之前、得睹天主之國者矣。』

凡真心奉事基督耶穌、而實踐其道者、靡有不遭受危難迫辱。

更謂眾及門徒曰：『人欲從予、必先舍己、負其十字架而隨我後。

及摩西長成憑信德、而毅然拒絕法老外孫之名稱；寧願與天主之民同受困苦、不願於須臾之間與罪人同享逸樂。在摩西之心目中、基督之垢辱、實富於埃及之寶庫也。何則、其所見者大。其所望者遠也。

故予樂為爾等遭受苦難、且吾身所遭受者、實足以補基督苦難之所缺也。夫教會者、基督之體也；予既為教會之公僕、則為此體親嘗其苦難、

勸眾堅心、信道勿移、曰：『吾人欲入天主之國、必須經歷多難。』

眾執耶穌、曳之出；耶穌親荷十字架、至一地、名觸髏地希伯來語曰格爾格他、

庶幾造次顛沛無所動心。蓋知受苦受難、實為吾人分內之事。

適有西肋吶人西門、亞立山羅富之父也。來自田間、經此、兵士強之同行、使負耶穌架。

方出、遇有西勒吶人名西門者、兵士強之使負耶穌之架。

眾方曳耶穌出、有古利奈人西門者來自田間、眾執之、使負十字架於耶穌後、
