Then Jesus told his disciples,“ If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

不背起自己的十字架來跟從我的，也不配屬於我。

凡是不背著自己的十字架來跟從我的，也不能做我的門徒。

所以，基督既然在肉身上受過苦，你們也應該以同樣的心志裝備自己，因為那在肉身上受過苦的，就已經與罪斷絕了，以致不再順著人的欲望，而是順著神的旨意，在世上度餘下的時間。

耶穌注視著他，就愛他，對他說：「你還缺少一件：去賣掉你所擁有的，分給窮人，這樣你將有財寶在天上；然後你來跟從我。」

耶穌又對大家說：「如果有人想要來跟從我，他就當否定自己，天天背起自己的十字架，然後跟從我。因為凡想要保全自己生命的，將失去生命；凡為我的緣故失去自己生命的，這個人將保全生命。一個人就是賺得了全世界，卻喪失了自己，或賠上了自己，到底有什麼益處呢？一個人如果以我和我的話為恥，當人子在自己、父，和聖天使們的榮耀中來臨的時候，也要以這個人為恥。我確實地告訴你們：站在這裡的有些人，在還沒有嘗到死的滋味之前，必定見到神的國。」

其實，所有想要在基督耶穌裡過敬神生活的，也都會受到逼迫；

於是，耶穌把眾人和他的門徒們一起召來，對他們說：「如果有人想要跟從我，他就當捨棄自己，背起自己的十字架，然後跟從我。

因著信，摩西長大以後，拒絕被稱為法老女兒的兒子。他寧願選擇與神的子民同受虐待，也不願享受暫時的罪中之樂。他把為基督受的責罵看做是比埃及的財寶更大的財富，因為他注目那將來的報償。

如今我為你們受苦難，感到歡喜；並且我為基督的身體，就是教會，要在我的肉體上補滿基督患難的缺欠。

堅固門徒們的心，鼓勵他們持守信仰，說：「我們進入神的國，必須經過很多患難。」

耶穌自己背著十字架出來，前往一個叫「骷髏地」的地方，希伯來語叫做「各各他」。

免得有人在這些患難中動搖。因為你們自己知道，我們要受患難是註定的。

有一個古利奈人西門，是亞歷山大和魯弗斯的父親，正從鄉下來，經過那裡。他們就強迫他來背耶穌的十字架。

他們出去的時候，遇見一個名叫西門的古利奈人，就強迫這個人來背耶穌的十字架。

他們把耶穌帶走的時候，抓了一個從鄉下來的古利奈人西門，把十字架放在他身上，要他背著，跟在耶穌後面。
