But Paul, perceiving that one group were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, began crying out in the Council,“ Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; I am on trial for the hope and resurrection of the dead!”When he said this, a dissension occurred between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided.For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you about bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

So they said to Him,“ What then are You doing as a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work are You performing?Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written:‘ He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’ ”

But Jesus perceived their malice, and said,“ Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?

And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples,“ Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?”

But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.And one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him:

And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, demanding from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.Sighing deeply in His spirit, He* said,“ Why does this generation demand a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation!”And leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side.And the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them.And He was giving orders to them, saying,“ Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of Herod.”And they began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread.And Jesus, aware of this,* said to them,“ Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet comprehend or understand? Do you still have your heart hardened?Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember,when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They* said to Him,“ Twelve.”“ When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they* said to Him,“ Seven.”And He was saying to them,“ Do you not yet understand?”

saying:“ The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses.

But the Pharisees went out and conspired against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.

And He was also saying to the crowds,“ Whenever you see a cloud rising in the west, you immediately say,‘ A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out.And whenever you feel a south wind blowing, you say,‘ It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way.You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you do not know how to analyze this present time?

Now as the crowds were increasing, He began to say,“ This generation is a wicked generation; it demands a sign, and so no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
