Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty— but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

( The Jews, especially the Pharisees, do not eat until they have poured water over their cupped hands, as required by their ancient traditions.Similarly, they don’t eat anything from the market until they immerse their hands in water. This is but one of many traditions they have clung to— such as their ceremonial washing of cups, pitchers, and kettles.)

His host was amazed to see that he sat down to eat without first performing the hand washing ceremony required by Jewish custom.Then the Lord said to him,“ You Pharisees are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy— full of greed and wickedness!Fools! Didn’t God make the inside as well as the outside?

“ But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars— their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people— none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

“ What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy— full of greed and self indulgence!You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too.

Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes— these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him.

“ Why do your disciples disobey our age old tradition? For they ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat.”
