Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying,

Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked,

Some Pharisees and some teachers of the law came from Jerusalem to see Jesus. They asked,

Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,

Some Pharisees and teachers of religious law now arrived from Jerusalem to see Jesus. They asked him,

Then Jesus was approached by Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem, who asked,

Then some Pharisees and scribes* came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,

Then there come to Jesus from Jerusalem Pharisees and scribes, saying,

Then Pharisees and scribes came from Jerusalem to Jesus and asked,

Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

Then Pharisees and experts in the law came from Jerusalem to Jesus and said,

Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying,

And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said,“ He has Beelzebub,” and,“ By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.”

And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying,“ Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it.’Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?And,‘ Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged to perform it.’Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?Therefore he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it.He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it.And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

saying:“ The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat.

Then there arose a loud outcry. And the scribes of the Pharisees’ party arose and protested, saying,“ We find no evil in this man; but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.”

Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

And their scribes and the Pharisees complained against His disciples, saying,“ Why do You eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem.Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders.When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him,“ Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”He answered and said to them,“ Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:‘ This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men— the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.”He said to them,“ All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.For Moses said,‘ Honor your father and your mother’; and,‘ He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’But you say,‘ If a man says to his father or mother,“ Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban”—’( that is, a gift to God),then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother,making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them,“ Hear Me, everyone, and understand:There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man.
