But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but[ that] rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed[ his] hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye[ to it].Then answered all the people, and said, His blood[ be] on us, and on our children.Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered[ him] to be crucified.

Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and[ the king] sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door:[ is] not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil[ is] of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that[ pertain] to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.

And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying,[ As] the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

For,[ as] the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. But[ there was] not a man among all the people[ that] answered him.Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good unto thee.Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect[ lot]. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.And Saul said, Cast[ lots] between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that[ was] in mine hand,[ and], lo, I must die.And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for thou shalt surely die, Jonathan.And the people said unto Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? God forbid:[ as] the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he died not.

And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly[ thither].Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with[ me], and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

And king Herod heard[ of him];( for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

Then the king, when he heard[ these] words, was sore displeased with himself, and set[ his] heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians[ is], That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast[ him] into the den of lions.[ Now] the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

And David said to Abigail, Blessed[ be] the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me:And blessed[ be] thy advice, and blessed[ be] thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to[ shed] blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand.For in very deed,[ as] the LORD God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.

And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD’S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter[ any] thing before God: for God[ is] in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed[ be] the man that eateth[ any] food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted[ any] food.

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,

And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her[ according] to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,

How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?And they said, What one[ is there] of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.For the people were numbered, and, behold,[ there were] none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.And this[ is] the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which[ is] in the land of Canaan.And the whole congregation sent[ some] to speak to the children of Benjamin that[ were] in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?And they said,[ There must be] an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed[ be] he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.Then they said, Behold,[ there is] a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly[ in a place] which[ is] on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time,[ that] ye should be guilty.And the children of Benjamin did so, and took[ them] wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!But they cried out, Away with[ him], away with[ him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led[ him] away.

And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let[ him] have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix’ room: and Felix, willing to shew the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed[ be] the man that eateth[ any] food this day. And the people were faint.
