人们跑遍那整个地区，听到耶稣在哪里，就把有病的人用垫子抬到哪里。

于是耶稣的消息很快地传遍了加利利周围所有的地区。他们从会堂出来，随即到西门和安得烈的家去，雅各和约翰也一起去。西门的岳母正发烧躺着，他们立刻把她的事告诉耶稣。耶稣上前去，握着她的手，扶她起来，烧就退了。于是她就服事他们。到了傍晚，日落的时候，人们带着所有患病的、有鬼魔附身的，到耶稣那里去。全城的人都聚集在门前。耶稣就使许多患有各种疾病的人痊愈，又驱赶了很多鬼魔。他不准鬼魔说话，因为那些鬼魔知道他是谁。

耶路撒冷、以杜迈亚、约旦河对岸，以及提尔和西顿周围的一大群人来到他那里，因为他们听说了耶稣所做的事。由于人多，耶稣就吩咐他的门徒为他预备一条小船，免得众人拥挤他。因为他使许多人痊愈，所以有病痛的人都向他挤过来，想要摸到他。

过了些日子，耶稣又进了迦百农。人们听说他在房子里，许多人就聚集，甚至连门前都没有空处了。于是耶稣就向他们讲道。这时候，一些人带了一个瘫痪的人来到耶稣那里，是被四个人抬来的；但由于人多，无法抬到耶稣面前，他们就把耶稣上方的屋顶拆了。拆通之后，就把躺在垫子上那瘫痪的人缒了下去。耶稣看见他们的信心，就对瘫痪的人说：“孩子，你的罪孽被赦免了。”可是，有一些经文士坐在那里，心里想：“这个人怎么这样说话呢？他说亵渎的话！除了神一位之外，谁能赦免罪呢？”耶稣灵里立刻知道他们心里这样想，就对他们说：“你们心里为什么想这些事呢？对这瘫痪的人说‘你的罪孽被赦免了’，或说‘你起来，拿起垫子走路’，哪一样更容易呢？不过为要使你们知道人子在地上有赦免罪的权柄——”耶稣就对瘫痪的人说：“我吩咐你：起来，拿起你的垫子，回家去吧！”那个人就立刻起来，拿起垫子在大家面前出去了。结果大家都惊讶，就荣耀神，说：“我们从来没有见过这样的事。”

他的消息就在全叙利亚省传开了。人们把所有的病人，就是患各种疾病的、受疼痛折磨的、有鬼魔附身的、癫痫的、瘫痪的，都带到耶稣那里。耶稣就使他们痊愈。于是有一大群人从加利利、德卡波利斯、耶路撒冷、犹太和约旦河对岸来，跟随耶稣。
