他们跑遍那一带地方，用垫子把生病的人抬来，听到耶稣在哪里，就把病人抬到哪里。

于是，耶稣的名声立刻传遍了整个加利利。耶稣同雅各和约翰离开会堂，来到西门和安得烈家。当时西门的岳母正发烧，躺在床上，他们立刻把这事告诉耶稣。耶稣走到她的床边，拉着她的手扶她起来，她的烧立刻退了，便起来服侍他们。日落之后，有人把病人和被鬼附身的人都带来见耶稣。全城的人都聚在门前。耶稣医好了许多患各种疾病的人，又赶出很多鬼。祂不准鬼说话，因为鬼认识祂。

还有很多人听见耶稣所做的一切，就从犹太、耶路撒冷、以土买、约旦河东，甚至泰尔和西顿一带来找祂。耶稣见人多，就吩咐门徒为祂预备一条小船，以免人群拥挤祂。因为祂医好了很多人，凡有疾病的人都想挤过来摸祂。

几天后，耶稣回到迦百农。祂在家的消息一传开，立刻有许多人蜂拥而来，连门外也挤满了人。耶稣正给他们讲道的时候，有四个人抬着一个瘫痪的人来见祂。但因为人太多，他们无法抬到耶稣跟前，就拆掉屋顶，对准耶稣所坐的地方，将瘫子连垫子一起缒下去。耶稣看见他们的信心，就对瘫子说：“孩子，你的罪被赦免了！”有几个律法教师坐在那里，心里议论说：“这是什么话？简直是亵渎上帝！除了上帝之外，谁能赦罪呢？”耶稣立刻看透了他们的心思，就说：“你们为什么这样心里议论呢？对瘫子说‘你的罪得到赦免了’容易呢，还是说‘起来，收拾你的垫子走吧’容易呢？但我要让你们知道人子在世上有赦罪的权柄。”于是祂对瘫子说：“我吩咐你起来收拾你的垫子回家去吧。”那人就站起来，马上收拾好垫子，当着众人的面走了出去。众人都十分惊奇，赞美上帝说：“我们从来没见过这样的事！”

祂的名声传遍了整个叙利亚。人们把一切患病的，就是患各种疾病的、疼痛的、癫痫的、瘫痪的，以及被鬼附身的都带到祂面前，祂都医治了他们。因此，有大群的人跟从了祂，他们来自加利利、低加坡里、耶路撒冷、犹太和约旦河东。
