But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out,“ Lord, save me!”

Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them.But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

Now Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. Therefore they said to him,“ You are not also one of His disciples, are you?” He denied it and said,“ I am not!”One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said,“ Did I not see you in the garden with Him?”Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed.

And he said:“ I cried out to the Lord because of my affliction, And He answered me.“ Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.Then I said,‘ I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head.I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord, my God.“ When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.

The pains of death surrounded me, And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow.Then I called upon the name of the Lord:“ O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!”

Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said,“ This man was also with Him.”But he denied Him, saying,“ Woman, I do not know Him.”And after a little while another saw him and said,“ You also are of them.” But Peter said,“ Man, I am not!”Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying,“ Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”But Peter said,“ Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying,“ Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

Now as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came.And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said,“ You also were with Jesus of Nazareth.”But he denied it, saying,“ I neither know nor understand what you are saying.” And he went out on the porch, and a rooster crowed.And the servant girl saw him again, and began to say to those who stood by,“ This is one of them.”But he denied it again. And a little later those who stood by said to Peter again,“ Surely you are one of them; for you are a Galilean, and your speech shows it.”Then he began to curse and swear,“ I do not know this Man of whom you speak!”A second time the rooster crowed. Then Peter called to mind the word that Jesus had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And when he thought about it, he wept.

Arise, O Lord; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.

And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him,“ Alas, my master! What shall we do?”

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.And He said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying,“ You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”But he denied it before them all, saying,“ I do not know what you are saying.”And when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there,“ This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”But again he denied with an oath,“ I do not know the Man!”And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter,“ Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you.”Then he began to curse and swear, saying,“ I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him,“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.

They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits’ end.Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses.He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven.

Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.I sink in deep mire, Where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters, Where the floods overflow me.
