But when he saw the strong wind he became afraid. And starting to sink, he cried out,“ Lord, save me!”

But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out,“ Lord, save me!”

But when Peter saw the wind, he was afraid. He began to sink. He cried out,“ Lord! Save me!”

The waters closed over my head; I thought I was about to die.ק( Qof)I have called on your name, O LORD, from the deepest pit.You heard my plea:“ Do not close your ears to my cry for relief!”You came near on the day I called to you; you said,“ Do not fear!”ר( Resh)

Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

At my first defense no one appeared in my support; instead they all deserted me– may they not be held accountable for it.But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed for all the Gentiles to hear. And so I was delivered from the lion’s mouth!

Meanwhile Simon Peter was standing in the courtyard warming himself. They said to him,“ You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” Peter denied it:“ I am not!”One of the high priest’s slaves, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said,“ Did I not see you in the orchard with him?”Then Peter denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed.

and said,“ I called out to the LORD from my distress, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help, and you heard my prayer.You threw me into the deep waters, into the middle of the sea; the ocean current engulfed me; all the mighty waves you sent swept over me.I thought I had been banished from your sight, that I would never again see your holy temple!Water engulfed me up to my neck; the deep ocean surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.I went down to the very bottoms of the mountains; the gates of the netherworld barred me in forever; but you brought me up from the Pit, O LORD, my God.When my life was ebbing away, I called out to the LORD, and my prayer came to your holy temple.

The ropes of death tightened around me, the snares of Sheol confronted me. I was confronted with trouble and sorrow.I called on the name of the LORD,“ Please LORD, rescue my life!”

Then they arrested Jesus, led him away, and brought him into the high priest’s house. But Peter was following at a distance.When they had made a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them.Then a slave girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight, stared at him and said,“ This man was with him too!”But Peter denied it:“ Woman, I don’t know him!”Then a little later someone else saw him and said,“ You are one of them too.” But Peter said,“ Man, I am not!”And after about an hour still another insisted,“ Certainly this man was with him, because he too is a Galilean.”But Peter said,“ Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” At that moment, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.Then the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him,“ Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”

And a great storm developed on the sea so that the waves began to swamp the boat. But he was asleep.So they came and woke him up saying,“ Lord, save us! We are about to die!”

Now while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest’s slave girls came by.When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked directly at him and said,“ You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus.”But he denied it:“ I don’t even understand what you’re talking about!” Then he went out to the gateway, and a rooster crowed.When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders,“ This man is one of them.”But he denied it again. A short time later the bystanders again said to Peter,“ You must be one of them, because you are also a Galilean.”Then he began to curse, and he swore with an oath,“ I do not know this man you are talking about!”Immediately a rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said to him:“ Before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

Rise up, LORD! Deliver me, my God! Yes, you will strike all my enemies on the jaw; you will break the teeth of the wicked.

The prophet’s attendant got up early in the morning. When he went outside there was an army surrounding the city, along with horses and chariots. He said to Elisha,“ Oh no, my master! What will we do?”

even because of the extraordinary character of the revelations. Therefore, so that I would not become arrogant, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to trouble me– so that I would not become arrogant.I asked the Lord three times about this, that it would depart from me.But he said to me,“ My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A slave girl came to him and said,“ You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”But he denied it in front of them all:“ I don’t know what you’re talking about!”When he went out to the gateway, another slave girl saw him and said to the people there,“ This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.”He denied it again with an oath,“ I do not know the man!”After a little while, those standing there came up to Peter and said,“ You really are one of them too– even your accent gives you away!”At that he began to curse, and he swore with an oath,“ I do not know the man!” At that moment a rooster crowed.Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said:“ Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

They swayed and staggered like a drunk, and all their skill proved ineffective.They cried out to the LORD in their distress; he delivered them from their troubles.He calmed the storm, and the waves grew silent.The sailors rejoiced because the waves grew quiet, and he led them to the harbor they desired.

Deliver me, O God, for the water has reached my neck.I sink into the deep mire where there is no solid ground; I am in deep water, and the current overpowers me.
