And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I,[ and] thou heardest my voice.For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.The waters compassed me about,[ even] to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars[ was] about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

Then took they him, and led[ him], and brought him into the high priest’s house. And Peter followed afar off.And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this[ fellow] also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.And his disciples came to[ him], and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is[ one] of them.And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art[ one] of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth[ thereto].But he began to curse and to swear,[ saying], I know not this man of whom ye speak.And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies[ upon] the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.But he denied before[ them] all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.And when he was gone out into the porch, another[ maid] saw him, and said unto them that were there, This[ fellow] was also with Jesus of Nazareth.And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.And after a while came unto[ him] they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art[ one] of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.Then began he to curse and to swear,[ saying], I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto[ my] soul.I sink in deep mire, where[ there is] no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.
