For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.

Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

Herod had arrested John. He had tied him up and put him in prison because of Herodias. She was the wife of Herod’s brother Philip.

For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias( the former wife of Herod’s brother Philip).

Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee;

But when Herod the tetrarch was reprimanded by him regarding Herodias, his brother’s wife, and regarding all the evil things which Herod had done,Herod also added this to them all: he locked John up in prison.

And Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death, and could not do so;

and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl,“ Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”

Now while in prison, John heard about the works of Christ, and he sent word by his disciples,

Now on that very occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

Now John also was baptizing in Aenon, near Salim, because there was an abundance of water there; and people were coming and being baptized—for John had not yet been thrown into prison.
