原來希律、為了他兄弟腓力的妻子希羅底的緣故、曾把約翰抓住，給捆綁了，下在監裏；

Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

Herod had arrested John. He had tied him up and put him in prison because of Herodias. She was the wife of Herod’s brother Philip.

For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

原來希律、為了他兄弟腓力的妻子希羅底的緣故（因為他娶了她）、曾差遣人抓住約翰，將他捆着，下在監裏。

耶穌聽見約翰被送了官，就退到加利利；

只是分封王希律、因了自己兄弟的妻子希羅底的事、又因了自己所行的一切惡事受約翰指責、竟在一切之上多加了一件：把約翰關在監裏。

希羅底逼着他，想要殺他，只是不能。

希羅底自己的女兒進去跳舞；她得了希律和一同坐席的人的歡心；於是王對閨女說：『凡你所願意的，求我，我就給你。』

約翰在監獄裏聽見基督的事工，就打發門徒，

正當那時，有在場的人將加利利人的事告訴耶穌：說彼拉多屠殺加利利人，使他們流血跟祭物攙雜在一起。

約翰在靠近撒冷的哀嫩也施行着洗禮，因為那裏水多，人都去受洗禮；（那時約翰還沒有下在監裏）。
