耶稣听说约翰被逮捕了，就退到加利利地区。

分封王希律为了他弟弟的妻子希罗迪娅的事，以及自己所做的一切恶事，受到约翰的责备。希律在这一切事上又加了一件，就是把约翰关在监狱里。

所以希罗迪娅对约翰怀恨在心，想要杀他，只是不能。

希罗迪娅的女儿进来跳舞，使希律和一同坐席的人都非常喜悦。王就对女孩说：“你无论想要什么，向我求，我就会给你。”

约翰在监狱里听说了基督所做的事，就派自己的几个门徒去

正在那时候，有些人前来告诉耶稣有关加利利人的事，就是彼拉多把加利利人的血与他们的祭物混在一起的事。

约翰也在撒令附近的艾嫩施洗，因为那里水多。众人纷纷而来受洗。原来，约翰那时候还没有被投进监狱。
