Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

原来希律曾亲自派人去捉拿约翰，把他捆锁在监里。他这样作，是为了他弟弟的妻子希罗底的缘故，因为他娶了希罗底为妻，

耶稣听见约翰被捕，就往加利利去。

分封王希律，因他弟弟的妻子希罗底，并因他自己所行的一切恶事，受到约翰的责备。他在这一切事以外，再加上一件，就是把约翰关在监里。

于是希罗底怀恨在心，想要杀他，只是不能。

希罗底的女儿进来跳舞，使希律和在座的宾客都很开心。王就对女孩子说：“你无论想要什么，只管向我求，我一定给你！”

约翰在监狱里听见基督所作的，就派门徒去问他：

就在那时候，有几个在那里的人，把加利利人的事告诉耶稣，就是彼拉多把他们的血和他们的祭物搀在一起的事。

约翰也在靠近撒冷的艾嫩施洗，因为那里水多；众人都去受洗。那时约翰还没有入狱。
